Harvard University had conducted an analysis of the reasons why bottled water should be avoided. Modern society imposes needs that sometimes make life harder than it should be. One of those “needs” is to buy bottled water neglecting that the water from the water supply system is clean and constantly controlled.

According to Harvard’ research, there are at least three key reasons why should we avoid bottled water.

Pollution

The full life cycle of the bottle in which the water is filled uses fossil fuels to “produce”, thus contributing to global warming and causing pollution.

More than 17 million barrels of oil are needed to produce enough plastic water bottles to meet America’s annual demand for bottled water . We are a small country, but still those bottles would’ve not needed to be produced if we just drink clean and controlled water from the water supply system.

“According to the Container Recycling Institute, 86% of the plastic water bottles used in the United States become garbage or rubbish.”

Price

Bottled water is about 3000% more expensive than tap water.

MYTH: Bottled water is cleaner than tap water

“Bottled water is generally neither cleaner, nor safer, nor healthier than tap water. “In fact, the federal government is demanding much stricter and more frequent safety testing and monitoring of municipal drinking water ,” the Harvard analysis said.
